LOCAL BAND, BORN IN COLORADO

Primal J & the Neanderthals was born from the belief that music doesn’t need permission to exist. Formed in 2015 and hailing from Eagle, Colorado, the five-piece band came together around instinct, lived experience, and a shared respect for raw, stripped-down sound rooted in country and rock. Founded by lead singer and guitarist Primal J, the project rejects perfection in favor of honesty, and polish in favor of power.

This music comes from moments that can’t be cleaned up or compressed into something marketable. It’s meant to be felt — not filtered.

The Neanderthals aren’t characters; they’re a reminder. Before filters. Before platforms. Before rules. Humans gathered around rhythm and story.

That’s what we’re doing here.

LEAD SINGER & GUITARIST

JUSTIN LOTTMAN

Justin Lottman doesn’t perform — he inhabits the music.

As the voice and presence at the center of Primal J & the Neanderthals, Justin brings a rare mix of raw emotion, restraint, and explosive release. His vocals carry lived experience rather than polish, drawing listeners in with honesty before hitting them with power. There’s nothing manufactured in his delivery — every word lands because it has weight.

Justin’s approach to music is instinctual and grounded. He believes songs should be felt first and analyzed later, and that the best performances happen when the line between the band and the audience disappears entirely.

PRIMAL J IS THE ANCHOR

Drawing from real life, unfiltered emotion, and a refusal to soften the edges, Primal J doesn’t perform at an audience — they perform with it. Every lyric, beat, and moment is rooted in the belief that vulnerability is strength and volume is sometimes the only honest response.

LEAD GUITAR & VOCALIST

ERIC WHIRLEY

Eric Whirley is the architect of tension.

With a guitar style that balances grit and precision, Eric builds sonic landscapes that feel both controlled and dangerous. His playing moves effortlessly between groove and abrasion, creating space when needed and tearing it open when the moment demands it.

Eric brings a deep respect for dynamics — knowing when to pull back and when to strike — making him a critical force in shaping the band’s live sound. His tone isn’t about flash; it’s about feel, texture, and impact.

BASS GUITARIST

DAN RENNER

Dan Renner is the spine.

Anchoring the band with thick, deliberate bass lines, Dan locks rhythm and melody together in a way that keeps everything grounded while still pushing forward. His playing is steady, physical, and intentional — the kind of bass you don’t just hear, you feel in your chest.

Dan’s strength lies in restraint and timing, giving the music its weight and momentum while allowing the rest of the band to move freely around him. When the groove hits, it’s because Dan put it there.

THE NEANDERTHALS ARE THE BACKBONE

Each member brings their own grit, instincts, and sound to the collective — no ego, no hierarchy, no manufactured personas. Together, they build something bigger than any individual: a wall of rhythm and energy that feels ancient and immediate at the same time.

DRUMS

SCOTT DAVISON

Scott Davison is the engine.

With a drumming style rooted in power, groove, and intuition, Scott drives the band with relentless energy and control. His rhythms feel primal and immediate, pulling from instinct rather than excess — every hit serves the song, every silence matters.

Scott doesn’t just keep time; he sets the pulse. His playing brings urgency to the stage and cohesion to the sound, turning each performance into something physical, visceral, and impossible to ignore.
